Photo Gallery   NY Day 2 - Central Park, Tavern on the Green, Rockettes Oh my goodness, our beds were extremely comfortable. Either that or it was because I was soooo tired. I was sitting here in our room last night posting the pictures and Penny said goodnight, and I swear not 3 seconds later her feet started twitching. It was like she turned her switch off. We headed out this morning about 9:00 (we knew it would be our only morning to sleep in, so we took advantage), and had breakfast on the patio at a little corner store café next to our hotel. As I was taking some pictures of Penny, a guy across from us on the patio kind of laughed at me and said I was as camera happy as he was…. so an instant new friendship was made. He started yanking out all kinds of camera garb from his backpack and showing me. He had a D this and a D that… and it was all going over my head. Come to find out, he lives in Rockwall. Small world. We exchanged email addresses, and I may do some website work for him in exchange for some photography tips and tricks. Ya never know what’s gonna happen when you strike up a conversation, do you? ;-) After breakfast, we took the subway over to Central Park where there was an area set up with a bunch of little Christmas shopping booths. Penny started shopping, and I started taking more pictures. I just still can’t believe I’m here. Central Park is right there by the Trump Hotel and Tavern on the Green, and it’s just soooo beautiful. After a few minutes there, we started our long walk through Central Park. Since I love dogs more than humans, I stopped and took pictures of lots of cute little puppy doggies. It really made me miss my Whiskey Baby at home. I just got off the phone with Mike, and he said that today he and Whiskey played hide and go seek at his mom’s house with my niece and nephew. Ha! … but apparently Whiskey abandoned the hiding space early a couple of times and gave Mike’s spot away. Mike said they both hid in the bathtub at one point. How I wish I could have a picture of that. Woops sorry… got a little side tracked. Back to Central Park… We started over on one end and meandered all through the park for almost 4 miles. We saw the carousel, all the pretty rocks, a bunch of people on horse and carriages, joggers, bikers, an ice skating rink, some cute little tame squirrels, the zoo, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, all the pretty buildings in the background, and that big green field that you always see in US magazine… except, we didn’t see any celebrities there. ;-) Well, anyway, I took a bunch of pictures in the park, so you’ll be able to see what we saw for the most part. We had reservations for Tavern on the Green at 5:15, so we raced through the subways back to the room and took really quick showers and headed back out. We dressed up, so of course it wasn’t as easy to go fast in our uncomfortable shoes. After almost being late, we were relieved to be seated at the restaurant. I had a really good glass of red wine and we had shrimp cocktail for an appetizer. When our steak came, I was already full, so I had a couple of pieces and waited for the main course, cheese cake. There was a photographer going around taking pictures like they do at Pat O’Briens, and we had ours taken in front of the Christmas tree. It turned out pretty good, so we both bought one. I’ll scan it when I get home and include it here. Just my recommendation.. if you go to New York, just go in and walk around Tavern on the Green, but don’t stay and eat. It was about $90 after it was all over with, and the food and service (in my opinion) wasn’t that good. We were “so over” the subway for the night, so we cabbed it down the road to 51st Street and walked to Radio City for the Rockettes show. I had no idea what to expect and was really impressed. You’ll see my blurry no-flash pictures of pretty much each scene. My favorite part was when all the girls were in one single file line, and they had a cannon that attempted to knock them down. When that didn’t work, one of the characters leaned over and blew on them, and they did this thing in slow motion like dominos falling. The way they did it was incredible. Starting on the right side of the line, they would lock their bodies together and slowly fall down, but the entire line didn’t fall at once. One by one, each girl would lock onto the girl in front of her and the line would begin to slowly fall or “sag”. Eventually all the girls were locked together and the line, by that time was totally down. Some physics teacher must have made that up??? You will understand what I’m explaining after you look at the pictures. It was sooo neat. I missed the beginning of the next scene, cause I was looking back at my pictures. After the show was over, it was about 10:00, so we walked a block south and checked out Rockefeller Plaza where the big Christmas tree was lit by the ice skating rink. They’ve got the rink sort of situated where you can’t even see it if you’re over by the tree, and there are so many people around its edges that you can’t see it unless you really want to. We’re going to go up on top of the building in that area Tuesday, so I’ll take some pictures of the rink by looking down on it from above. We checked out the little NBC area across the street and we’ll be there bright and early in the morning to be on the Today Show. ;-) Tonight Penny made a poster with 3 cute pictures of Madelyn on it, to see if it will catch the camera’s eye in the morning. It’s 1:00 am and Penny’s in bed, but not twitching quite yet  . She’s got the alarm set for 4:45. Painful. My brain still thinks it’s only midnight.
